Craig Pethebridge

As a young child in school, Craig Pethebridge got his first taste of small business marketing from selling tadpoles to friends for two cents each, which was big dough back in those days. His ‘portfolio’ quickly grew when he realised that he needed to sell something to keep the little wrigglers in. So he started collecting old ice-cream buckets and packaged a deal for anyone who bought the full aquatic kit. But it didn’t stop there. Next he was raiding his mother’s garden for rocks and moss to up-sell as shelter when they turned into frogs… Craig made an absolute killing in the summer of ’83.

Since then Craig combined his love for nature and business, graduating from Macquarie University with a Bachelor in Science in Resource and Environment Management before pursuing postgraduate studies in Marketing at the University of NSW along with several other industry courses as part of his 20-year career following his passion in Marketing.

During this time he gained extensive experience in marketing, branding, product development and communications roles with major brands such as Fairfax Media, Jetstar Airways and Crown Casino. In these positions Craig successfully created and implemented entire marketing strategies and developed alternative revenue opportunities across these industries.

But Craig’s passion to work with small businesses was ignited when he worked for Fairfax Media. During this time he was given the opportunity to work with business owners across very different industries such as travel, wine, publishing, financial services, box office and mobile technologies to create compelling offers for the publications giant’s extensive readership. He has since expanded his knowledge and experience further afield to help small business owners navigate through the marketing minefield of traditional versus digital marketing channels that exists today. It is a life choice not to be part of the corporate bureaucracy that has helped Craig identify so well and actively help small businesses achieve growth and success.

Craig’s interests are broad and varied. Throughout his life he has been continually placed in leadership positions- he achieved a Sporting Blue for Badminton at university, which is the highest sporting accolade awarded for leadership and elite representation at a national level. This sporting achievement provided the perfect opportunity to travel abroad for Craig to represent Australia. Craig has also developed a passion for swimming which led him to become the current National Champion for Masters Swimming Australia. But what he is really enjoying right now is mentoring uprising marketing stars as part of the Australian Marketing Institutes ‘Emerging Marketers’ mentoring program.

When Craig isn’t working he loves networking within his local business and marketing communities and participating in sporting endeavours. You may even catch him on a road trip where he spends his time getting out of the city to nurture his creative side with high doses of brainstorming and writing.
